If you’ve ever signed a contract for a checking account or credit card, you’ve probably signed away your right to join a class-action lawsuit. So if a bank unfairly charges you a $20 fee, it would probably cost you more than $20 in time and money to go through the industry-friendly arbitration process to hold them accountable. Two weeks ago, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau issued a rule to stop forced arbitration clauses in financial contracts. Surprise, surprise: House Republicans will vote on a resolution to reverse that ripoff clause rule. Leader Nancy Pelosi, House Financial Services Committee ranking member Maxine Waters and I are speaking out against Republican efforts to roll back this rule. Watch live now.

Press Conference on Consumer Protections

Every American deserves to know someone has their back. That is why House Republicans’ attacks on consumer protections, and Dodd-Frank’s Wall Street reform, are so repugnant. Congress should be fighting for American families, not the GOP’s Wall Street cronies.
