A tragic shooting of an unarmed Minneapolis woman, Justine Damond has been blamed on the cop being startled.  The moments that lead to her death gives people a sense of the kind of person she was.  Damond was a concerned citizen who phoned the police to report the possibility of a crime being committed.  Yet, the only crime to speak of that stemmed from her call was the one committed against her.  While we still do not know if anyone was being raped, or victimized in some way that prompted the call, we do know that Damond’s death could have been prevented.

The topic always leads back to a look a police reform. There has to be better training, and psychological evaluations implemented to rip the Barney Fife’s of the force away from this profession.  It is a deplorable thing when a single woman signals for help and is instead gunned down in that very ally by a cop who was too much of a coward to get out of his own patrol car and investigate.  The fact that the Keystone Cop, Noor of the Minneapolis police force leaned over from the passenger side, past his partner and shot an unarmed woman in pajamas.

So now you want us to digest the fact that Noor’s partner’s presence did afford him any sense of safety.  People have been startled on many occasions, by kids, pranksters, cars backfiring and any number of other things but firing a gun hasn’t been the immediate response in most cases.

He should, of course, be fired immediately, as there is no possible reason to place this unqualified police person on paid leave, further wasting the taxpayer’s dollars, especially now that those same funds should be set aside for the suit that is certain to come from this.

Additionally, this is a crime. Even if reduced to manslaughter opposed to murder, it is a crime. Our hope is that an announcement will soon be released stating that Noor is being arrested.  Followed by that should be an indictment and substantial prison time given for this horrific tear in the fabric of trust between officers and the citizens they are employed to protect.
