As rumblings abound about an imminent appeal in the Guyger case, Guyger supporter, Elisabeth Epps is asking that former police ‘awficcer’, and cold blooded murderer, Amber Guyger not serve out her prison sentence. She writes at The Appeal website, “I join organizers, activists, and even prosecutors in demanding justice for Jean. By “justice,” prosecutors mean a guilty verdict and prison sentence. But I join Jean’s brave 18-year-old brother Brandt, who in his victim statement told Guyger “I don’t even want you to go to jail.”

She goes on to add, “Brandt’s words should challenge us to re-examine our own notions of justice and punishment. Ultimately, justice for Botham Jean and for our community does not necessitate incarcerating his killer.”

Most unsettling she states, “Too many well-meaning people mistake prison for justice and confuse punishment with accountability. We do this not through shortcomings of our own, but because we live in a country obsessed with cops, courts, and cages. We haven’t seen many alternatives to punishment-driven, racist, and capitalist reliance on cops, courts, and cages.” You can read the full content of this dangerous and misguided appeal to free this killer, here. Once you have, it will surely motivate you to contact the Dallas appeals board and ask they not over term her lite 10 year sentence. Keep in mind that this is about a man who is unable to now demand justice for his death. Regardless of the leniency offered by his brother, we must harness our focus on the bigger picture. This type of disparaging in sentences can not stand. Too often we see sentences imposed on white killers reflective of someone who’s committed a ‘white collar’ crime, while the sentencing of black people clearly demand that juries lock them up and throw away the key.

We urge you to take action now by snail mail, email, and with unceasing phone calls.
