2nd RNR TIRE COMPLAINT RESOLVED-DISPUTING UNDISCLOSED FEES
RNR Tire Complaint
I Am The Discarded Marks Second Consumer Victory Involving RNR Tire
Another complaint. Another resolution.
I Am The Discarded (IATD) is pleased to announce the successful resolution of a second consumer complaint involving RNR Tire Express.
As a matter of policy, IATD will not publicly identify the consumer involved. Our clients’ names and identifying information are shared with the businesses involved when necessary to advocate on their behalf—not placed on public display simply because they sought help.
What we can say is this: the matter was brought to RNR Tire, IATD challenged the issues raised by our client, and the complaint has now been resolved.
This marks the second RNR Tire consumer matter successfully resolved following IATD intervention.
WHY WE PAY ATTENTION TO THESE COMPLAINTS
IATD’s interest in RNR Tire did not develop in a vacuum.
Publicly available consumer complaints have raised recurring concerns involving rental-purchase agreements, payoff calculations, so-called “same-as-cash” periods, unexpected balances, fees, payment withdrawals, repossession practices, and whether consumers fully understood the ultimate cost of the agreements they signed.
In one publicly posted complaint titled “Hidden massive APR dumped onto my price by RNR Tire Express,” a consumer alleged that four tires were represented as costing approximately $2,000. The consumer said that after making payments of roughly $150 per month for approximately 14 months, they later learned that approximately $2,000 was still owed.
The poster acknowledged signing the written agreement but alleged that the salesperson walked through the documents without adequately explaining the dramatically different financial consequences associated with the same-as-cash period.
That complaint does not involve an IATD client, and IATD makes no independent finding regarding the truth of the allegations. It is significant because it illustrates exactly why consumers must understand more than the amount of the weekly or monthly payment.
The critical questions are:
What is the cash price?
What is the total cost if the promotional payoff deadline is missed?
How much of each payment is actually reducing the balance?
What fees or rental charges can be added?
What will the consumer ultimately pay if the agreement runs its full term?
And perhaps most importantly:
Was all of that explained clearly before the consumer signed?
A signature matters. So does meaningful disclosure.
SECOND RESOLUTION. SAME MESSAGE.
IATD does not believe every consumer dispute means a company has violated the law. We investigate the circumstances, examine the documents available to us, communicate the consumer’s concerns, and give businesses an opportunity to resolve legitimate disputes.
But we also do not accept the proposition that “you signed it” ends every conversation.
Consumers are entitled to question billing, demand accountings, challenge representations they believe were misleading, dispute unauthorized charges, and ask businesses to explain exactly how an obligation grew from one amount to another.
When those questions are legitimate, businesses should answer them.
In this case, advocacy produced a resolution.
And for IATD, that is the objective.
We are not interested in creating controversy simply for the sake of controversy. We are interested in correcting problems.
Two RNR Tire matters have now reached successful resolutions following IATD advocacy.
It also sends an important message to consumers who may feel trapped by an agreement, overwhelmed by a balance they do not understand, or afraid that signing paperwork eliminated their right to ask questions:
Ask anyway.
Request the agreement.
Request the payment history.
Request the payoff calculation.
Put the dispute in writing.
And when something does not add up, challenge it.
Because sometimes the difference between remaining stuck in a consumer dispute and getting it resolved is simply refusing to stop asking the right questions.
